What to ask before you trust anyone with your search — and why the verification question matters more than anything else.
The matchmaking industry is not regulated the way people assume it is. There is no universal standard, no mandatory certification, no governing body that ensures every agency operates the same way. Which means that when you hand over your trust, and in this business, trust is everything… you need to know exactly what you are handing it to.
I am not writing this to criticise anyone specifically. I am writing it because I think you deserve to understand what separates one type of matchmaking service from another — and why it matters enormously for the quality, your investment and safety of your search.
At the lighter end of the industry (i.e. introduction agency, speed dating event, lunch date, dating agency, Apps etc) services closer to organised social introductions or casual dating, verification often means very little. A name. A date of birth. Maybe a photo check. The person fills in a form, pays a fee, and joins the database. Their intentions, their relationship history, their readiness for commitment – none of that is explored in any depth. Nobody sits down with them and asks the hard questions.
This works fine if what you are looking for is casual dating. It does not work if what you are looking for is a serious, committed relationship or marriage. Because the people you end up being introduced to may not be looking for the same thing you are. They may not even be who they say they are.
Every person who joins our network — whether they come to us directly or through a partner agency — has been through a real interview process. Not a form. Not a checklist. A conversation with a human being who asks questions that matter.
We verify identity. We verify the background information: Career, lifestyle, relationship history. We explore intentions: are you genuinely ready for a committed relationship, or are you still figuring that out? We ask about past relationships, your family, future vision….ane more. Not to judge, but to understand who you are. We look for readiness, not just availability.
When a profile comes from a partner agency rather than directly from us, we are selective about who we work with. We only collaborate with agencies who apply a comparable standard. Same depth of interview. Similar verification of intention. Same commitment to representing people honestly.
This is not snobbery. It is protection. I represent you. And for the people we represent on the other side.
When you invest in a serious matchmaking search — in terms of time, emotion, and money — you are making a significant commitment. You deserve to know that the people you are being introduced to have made the same commitment on their side. That they are here for the same intention.
An unverified introduction is not just a waste of time. It can be genuinely damaging to your confidence in the process, to the emotional energy you invest, and occasionally to your personal safety. The matchmaking world, like any industry that deals with human vulnerability, attracts people who are not always who they claim to be.
Verification is not a box-ticking exercise. It is the foundation of a trustworthy process.
If you are considering working with any matchmaking service including us, here are the questions I would encourage you to ask.
How do you verify the people in your network? Do you interview everyone personally, or do you rely on self-reported information? What happens if someone misrepresents themselves? Do you work with partner agencies, and if so, how do you assess their verification standards? What is your process if an introduction feels wrong or unsafe?
A serious agency will answer these questions directly and without hesitation. If the answers are vague, or if the conversation moves quickly to price before process… you want to pay attention to that.
You are not just buying introductions. You are trusting someone with something that genuinely matters. Make sure that trust is placed somewhere it is genuinely earned.
At Pacific Match Global, we have been doing this seriously for well over two decades. The verification process is not a selling point we invented for a brochure. It is how we have always worked, because it is the only way this kind of service should work.
A 90-minute conversation — fully confidential, no obligation. Ask us anything about our process, our verification standards, and how we work. We will answer every question directly.
