Dating Apps vs Marriage Agency: Which Should You Use to Have an International Marriage?

Are you looking for someone from a foreign country? In the pandemic era where you cannot interact with people living abroad, you would be only left with two options.

Let’s check out which one is more advantageous for international marriage by comparing online dating apps/sites and marriage agencies.

Global Online Dating Apps/Sites

Finding your fated person takes some time. However, online dating services enable you to match many people with ease. Some online dating services are prevalent worldwide enough to get to know people living in foreign countries. The world-famous tinder has been downloaded 340 million times in 190 countries. So, they do provide you with high chances of matching with a foreign partner. It also has the advantage of not having financial spending. The market price is either free or, if paid, $20 to $40 per month. Online dating services are suitable for people who want to choose a potential partner from many possibilities, easily and whenever they want.

Are They really who you are looking for as your marriage partner?

Despite these conveniences, many matches may be far from your ideal person. Since these services are accessible for anyone to start, not many users are looking for a serious relationship, having a marriage option in their mind. Even if you match with a lot of people, it’s hard to develop a relationship with them if their goals are different from yours. There is another major pitfall to these services: the absence of a mediator. Users can make profiles according to their will without verification without a mediator. Is his profile photo real? Is his occupation real? Is he telling the real age? A lot of concerns would come to your mind.

Moreover, what you should know is the risk of scams. Taking advantage of false identities, online dating apps/services are a great place for scammers because they have no worries about being tracked. Once they develop a relationship smoothly and build trust, they demand money. According to Noton Life Lock,  the victims of scams through online dating services were over 35,000 people in 2020, reaching out to $304 million. No one is saying online dating is hopeless. Still, it has a lot of challenges in seeking Mr. right among limitless matches avoiding these risks and fake IDs.

International Marriage Agencies

Fortunately, there are places that will fulfill your specific need for international marriage. That is international marriage agencies. Since these services have professional matchmakers, they have various advantages. The usual process for this service is as follows: background check of a client, matchmaking with a member who meets the client’s requirements, and after the matchmaking, if both parties agree, contact information is exchanged, and the relationship develops into marriage. The only people who use this service are serious about international marriage, so you won’t have to spend your time with the wrong person. In addition, since only those who have passed a rigorous background check are allowed to be clients, you are unlikely to get into any serious trouble during your path for international marriage. Not limited to matching service, matchmakers offer mental support and relationship advising during the service period, which is reassuring for international couples with many challenges. International marriage agencies have a much higher marriage rate than online dating services, so they are suited for people looking for quality rather than quantity in dating.

Disadvantages of International Marriage Agencies

Since professional matchmakers provide one-on-one services, the cost will not be as cheap as you can pay on a casual basis. On average, the price is between $2,000 and $15,000 for a contract of about one year. The number of people you can meet is much smaller than online dating because they carefully select and only introduce people who meet your requirements. Also, since you are signing a contract for a certain period, you will be required to make a decision about marrying the person as the time up of the period comes. There is still a risk that you may not meet your ideal person, regardless of these high costs and big mental commitment.

International Marriage Agencies

We have compared international marriage agencies and online dating services from various aspects. Both have their own pros and cons, but for the specific goal of international getting married, we would say those marriage agencies are more advantageous because their clients have the same goal as yours.

Online Scammers?! ..how to vet them

Are you sure you are okay?
You hear about women conned by some guy she’s met online.  You feel you have built the relationship through chatting, emails and texting.  He tells you nice things and he wants to come see you..but then there’s a trouble that involves money.  You feel sorry for the victim and you never think you are going to become one of these women.
It always starts off casual.  You check the profile.  He’s widowed with kids..you feel sorry.  So you write back.  You discover that you have so much in common and communication flows so much that it becomes one of your daily life…
Recently, I received an email from the woman in her late 40’s asking me if she is safe.  She has some suspicion, but I felt like it was too late for her to believe what I say as she denied on every points I made.  I hope our communication helped to raise the red flags in her mind before too late.
Online scammers have things in common. I thought I’d share my checklist:
☑️ The profile photo can be someone else’s – always do the name check. (I have celebrities following me in my IG..lol)
☑️ Widow / Widower status – photo with small children
☑️ Relatively nice looking, likable male with small children
☑️ Wearing uniform
☑️ Location: far from where you are – often Assigned to work overseas
☑️ Job: Government job, military personnel, Doctor, Civil engineer..some kind of professional job
☑️ The number of posts:  Usually his page has many shared posts  and 2-5 personal photos.  (IG – private account)
☑️ He sends a private message
☑️ Check his English – if he says he’s from English speaking countries
If it happens to you…
just take the complements and block/ ignore!!
Delete or block the message so you won’t be tempted to reply or to become a victim.
OK, if it is too late and if you already have feelings for him… then here’s the reality check:
He is trying to get to your soft spots, he doesn’t care about you but money.  Remember, it always starts with a casual and friendly conversation.  Be safe ladies!

be careful …
